Mumbai, June 16 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation additional commissioner for special projects Manu Kumar Srivastav today said if the rains do not start by June 20, the civic body will be forced to increase the water cut.

The BMC Standing Committee today deliberated upon the water supply situation in the metropolis and the additional commissioner made his obsrvations at the meet.

The BMC administration has already effected a a 20 per cent water cut since last week.

Leader of the House Sunil Prabhu wanted the water cut to be reduced but Standing Commitee chairman Ravindra Waikar said the water situation was the same every where and every one is eagerly awaiting the rains.

Mr Srivastav said the administration can maintain normal supply only till June 20 as the daily requirement of water in the city is 341 lakh litres.

Mr Srivastav said the water level of Modak Sagar has come down by 4 metres and the level of Tansa lake has come down by around 1 metre. Yogesh Sagar of the BJP, however, noted that the monsoon had been delayed earlier too but no such water cut had been imposed then.
