3 cops, others injured in clashes over demolition

Ahmedabad, Jun 16 (UNI) Three policemen, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and several others sustained injuries in clashes between residents and police over the demolition of an illegal construction in Maninagar area of the city today.

Police sources said, the trouble started when the civic authorities, accompanied by the police force, reached the spot to demolish illegal constructions. However, the residents opposed the action, pelting stones at the officials and injuring three policemen. The police, therefore, resorted to lathi charge and lobbed teargas shells.

Preliminary reports suggest that three policemen and several residents were injured in the clash and have been admitted to L G hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger.

Although no arrests have been made so far in this connection, police have registered a case of rioting against the mob, police sources added.
