Raisen, MP, June 15 (UNI) Twelve people were arrested today in this district headquarters for preparing youths to wage war against the US under the leadership of al Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden.

''The accused were tutoring the youths in a new form of Islam under the leadership of a certain 'prophet' who hails from Bihar and is residing at Delhi. The plan was to train local youths, take them to Delhi and then make them meet bin Laden along with similarly-trained youth from other places,'' said Superintendent of Police K C Jain.

The accused included youths Jamal Ahmad, Mohammad Shakeel (both from Delhi), Sheikh Javed, Kaleem Khan, Adil Khan (all Bhopal), Mohammad Anees (Agra), Mohammad Haneef alias Gudda, Saeed Ganja Ali, Akhtar Ali (all Gwalior) and Raees Ahmad (Dhuliya, Maharashtra).

Gunjan Gupta alias Mohammad Islam (Gwalior) and Ram alias Abdul Rahim (Dewas, Madhya Pradesh) -- both youths embraced Islam -- were also apprehended.

Mohammad Mateen and Athar Mohammad, who were undergoing training, informed Shahar Qazi Zaheer Khan after the trainees were told about moving to Delhi. Khan alerted the police and a raid at a flat in Ward Number One Narapura locality led to the arrests.

Objectionable literature and cellphones were seized. The accused were being subjected to sustained interrogation.

A mob of about 2,000 people gathered near the flat while the arrests were being executed. The mob's attempt to attack the accused was foiled by use of mild force by the police.

M Mateem and A Mohammad said the accused planned to train 313 youths across India and take them to Delhi. The trainess were tempted with money.
