Violent protest by students against CMPT results in UP

Lucknow, June 15 (UNI) Angry mob of students today staged violent protests in several places of Uttar Pradesh against the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) results declared yesterday.

The students have alleged irregularities in the evaluation process and demanded re-evaluation of the answer sheets.

In Lucknow, the students took to streets and stopped an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus en route to Kanpur.

They set the bus ablaze after asking passengers to alight.

Two persons were later taken in custody in this regard.

A report from Varanasi said students gathered at the Kabir Nagar crossing and raised anti state government slogans.

Alleging irregularities in the results of the entrance test for admission to six government medical colleges of the state, the students destroyed hoardings, damaged a three-wheeler and the sign board of a wine shop.

The agitating students also blocked the road, which was later cleared by the police.

In Kanpur, the students resorted to 'Gandhigiri' and sought support of the people by giving them red roses in Kalka Dev area.

Meanwhile, Secretary (Home) Javed Ahmad said the students staged violent protests in Allahabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and other parts of the state.

He directed the police to maintain a close vigil to prevent fresh violence.
