Sub-Postmaster arrested on bribery charges

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) A Sub-Postmaster, posted at Shastri Nagar in the Capital here, has been arrested for demanding bribe from an agent.

The Sub-Postmaster allegedly asked for Rs 4,000 from the lady agent, who earns commission on deposits at the post office, and threatened her to raise objections in her clients' deposits if she failed to do so, said the CBI here.

The accused had threatened the agent of raising objections in maintenance and operation of accounts of her clients with the post office.

The Sub-Postmaster was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 4,000 from the complainant in his office. He was produced before the designated court here and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
