Wardha, Maharashtra, June 15 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today said students must be trained to efficiently manage the huge storehouse of knowledge, that has become available to them in the 21st century.

Speaking at the inauguration of distance education programme at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University here, Dr Kalam said there was such a huge storehouse of knowledge today that its management of information was beyond the capacity of an individual. Management of knowledge must, therefore, move out of the realm of individual and into that of networked groups, he said.

Dr Kalam said imbibing values like sincerity, excellence, character and ethics should be the basic aim of education. The present system of education must be oriented to inculcate these values among pupils, he said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said language was an important means of bringing individuals and their minds together.

The use of Hindi must be encouraged to ensure the integrity of the nation, he said.

Earlier, Dr Kalam visited Mahatma Gandhi's Ashram in Sewagram and Acharya Vinoba Bhave's Ashram in Paunar here, according to an official press release here.

At the Sewagram Ashram, the President participated in a prayer meeting. At Paunar, he paid floral tributes at Vinoba Bhave's memorial, the release added.
