RSP develops new electrical steel
Bhubaneswar, June 15: The Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) has acquired the unique distinction of producing electrical steel with C5 coating for the first time in the country.
The RSP is now ready to supply new steel to the market, which was so far being imported. The steel plant was till date producing three different types of insulation coating such as C-3, C-4 and C-6 with organic, inorganic and semi-organic coating respectively.
RSP sources said the new insulation of semi-organic coating C5 had been developed by the employees with in-house efforts keeping in view the rising market demand.
The C5-coated electrical steel is a non-chrome environment-friendly steel having a better weldability as compared to C6-coating.
The trial production of 67 tonnes of electrical steel with C5-coating commenced in April 2007 and another 635 tonnes in the second trial was on June 4 last.
RSP sources claimed that the newly developed electrical steel had a very good market in the European countries.
