RMD Mines maintain upward trend in production

Kolkata, Jun 15(UNI) SAIL has recorded a growth of 13.8 per cent in iron ore despatch to the company's steel plant in the first two months of this fiscal compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.

A company release here today said the unit also recorded a growth of 6.5 per cent in production of iron ore, which is the best ever production since inception production of lump ore, for which plants have a high demand, has grown by 14.3 per cent in April-May 2007.

The growth in production and dispatch helped in maintaining a healthy stock at SAIL'S eastern sector's steel plants at Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur and Burnpur.

Individually RMD division of SAIL at Barsue, Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu, Bolani, Gua, and China showed a steady rise in iron ore lump production resigering a growth of 106 per cent, 29.3 per cent, 27.6 per cent, 18.7 per cent, 14.3 per cent and 10.7 per cent respectively. RMD has ramped up iron ore production to meet the enhanced requirement of the SAIL's steel plants.

RMD mines has targeted production of 19 MT by the end of this fiscal, and by 2012, the target was to produce more than 26 MT of iron ore. The major chunk of this supply is dependent on the development of mines located in Jharkhand.

Therefore, SAIL has prepared the blueprint to develop the mines in the state. In addition to that, SAIL is going to adopt state of the art technology for beneficiation of iron ore and slim at Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu, and Gua in Jharkhand.

China mines will also be developed as a state of the art modern mining outfit.
