Rains cool Jammu and Kashmir, temperatures dip
Srinagar, Jun 15 (UNI) Afternoon rains lowered the temperature by several degrees in the Kashmir valley today, bringing the much- needed relief to the locals and tourists who had sweltered under intense heat for the past many days.
The people in Kashmir had braved the hottest day and night of the season so far during the past few days.
Weather office here said the maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 30.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 18.8 degrees.
The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the hottest day of the season at 34.6 degrees on Wednesday, while the hottest night was experienced yesterday 21.2 degrees.
The Met Office said the day temperature in Jammu further went down due to rains last night to record at 32.6 degrees. The minimum also dropped and stood at 22.4 degrees.
The maximum temperature in the winter capital of the state had soared to 46.3 degrees on Sunday.
In Pahalgam, the maximum temperature stood at 25.6 degrees while the minimum was recorded at 13.6 degrees.
Weathermen said Srinagar and the famed tourist resort experienced 0.8 mm rainfall since last evening, while Jammu recorded 8.2 mm rains last night.
The Met Office has predicted rains at many places across the state.
