Punjab govt takes steps to uplift weaker sections
Phagwara, June 15 (UNI) Punjab Government has instructed all SSPs to ensure that no woman was summoned to any police station for interrogation under any circumstance, Punjab Social Security Minister Swarana Ram said here today.
Talking to newspersons, the minister also said the government had decided to end the practice of lifting of night soil on the heads by safai karamcharis in the state.
He said a special component plan of Rs 1250 crore has been approved by the state cabinet for the welfare of the dalits. The Government has also decided to exempt tution fees of students belonging to S/C categories in medical institutions and increase the financial aid from Rs 20,000 to 50,000 for the dalits.
Mr Swarana Ram said that Government had distributed a sum of Rs 76 crore to the farmers who had fallen victims of natural calamities.
He said that eight hours of uninterupted power supply was being supplied to the farmers for paddy crops.
