Presidential poll:Win-Win situation for Shekhawati

Jaipur, June 15 (UNI) It's a win-win situation for the Shekhawati region as both the contenders for Presidency hail from here.

The UPA nominee and Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who may contest as an independent, both hail from Sikar district.

Ninth President of the country Shankar Dayal Sharma's wife belonged to Rajgarh in Alwar district and the town had the previlege of hosting the First Couple many a times.

In 2002 Bhairon Singh Shekhawat made the state, particularly Shekhawati region, proud by becoming the Vice-President.

People of Shekhawati were praying for the win of Mr Shekhawat ever since he hinted at contesting as an independent and the NDA announcing to support him.

But when the ruling UPA-Left announced the candidature of Mrs Patil for the July 19 presidential poll, it became an ''all Rajasthan'' affair.

Mrs Patil is a ''daughter-in-law'' of Shekhawati as her husband Devisingh Ramsingh Shekhawat hails from Chhoti Losal village of Sikar district.

Mr Shekhawat also hails from Sikar district's Khachariyawas village.
