Poppy seed powder worth Rs 2 crore seized

Lucknow, Jun 15 (UNI) Police arrested three persons and seized a truck laden with 20 quintal poppy seed powder worth Rs 2 crore in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said Hazi Akar Ali, Waris and Sannu were nabbed on a tip-off at Zaidpur-Safdarganj bypass late yesterday.

A total of 50 gunny bags containing 20 quintal poppy seed powder was also recovered from the spot.

On interrogation, the accused confessed they were transporting the consignment to Hardoi.

Barabanki is the hub of poppy cultivation in UP.
