Police launch drive against encroachers

Imphal, Jun 15 (UNI) Manipur Police today launched a major drive against encroachers, especially shop keepers in the main markets of Imphal.

A strong police team of Imphal West toured the busy Thangal and Paona Keithel at the main market here and ordered all shop keepers to remove their goods from the main market area.

Those who did not do so were taken into police custody. Police said the drive was initiated to reduce the traffic and enable people to move freely on the footpath.

Police added that changes in the traffic regulations were made so that the traffic volume can be minimised.
