No extra work from teachers, says minister

Bhopal, June 15 (UNI) No extra work will be taken from school teachers in Madhya Pradesh, according to School Education Minister Narottam Mishra.

''In consultation with the Election Commission, the Education department has issued amended orders exempting teachers from about 40 extra works earlier assigned to them from time to time'', Mr Mishra told reporters here last evening during briefing of a cabinet decision to regularise 'Shiksha Karmis'.

Mr Mishra clarified that no extra work was assigned to teachers listed for on-job training during summer vacation. Denying that only half of the teachers were attending such training camps as they had been given extra work like updating electoral rolls, he said phased training was given to teachers from time to time and ''at present the attendance in training camps was 80 percent''.

He admitted that teachers were earlier engaged in about 40 extra works like census and preparation of electoral rolls and ration cards.
