Khajoorwala becomes MMC Mayor

Nashik, June 15 (UNI) Najmuddin Sheikh Gulsher alias Khajoorwala of the Teesra Mahaj (Indian Muslim Congress Party) was today elected Mayor of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC).

Congress candidate Sakharam Ghodake was elected Deputy Mayor.

in the 72-member house. The election was held under the supervision of Election Officer P K Thube.

Shiv Sena boycotted the election and a Samajwadi Party candidate and an independent remained neutral.

Meanwhile, the Teesra Mahaj again forged an alliance with the Congress. On Wednesday, the Mahaj's Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ismail had broken the alliance with the Congress, citing public pressure.

Congress leader and State Minister Baba Siddique played an important role in re-uniting the two parties late last night.

The Teesra Mahaj had earlier formed alliance with the Shiv Sena whereas the Congress had decided to go with the Janata Dal. Teesra Mahaj had broken the alliance with the Sena and formed alliance with the Congress.

With this election, curtains have been drawn on the political drama in Malegaon.
