HC says Chahal be given 4-day notice in future cases

Chandigarh, June 15 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court vacation division bench today directed that four days notice must be given to Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, the ex-media advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, if he was required to be arrested or questioned by the Punjab police in any case in the future.

The interim order by Justice S S Saron and Justice Arvind Kumar would remain in force till July 4 when it would be taken up for further consideration, as his anticipatory bail was also to be taken up on that day.

The order came on the writ petition filed by Chahal seeking directions against his alleged torture by the police while in custody alleging he was given electric shocks etc. since his arrest on June 10 at Ludhiana where he had gone to join investigations in alleged multi-crore scam of City Centre of Ludhiana Improvement Trust.

Earlier, the directions for four days notice were given to the state Vigilance Bureau and not to the police by the Vacation Bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh.

The petitioner would be medically examnined every day and his lawyer would be able to meet him daily in the morning and evening, the court said.
