Former Nagaland Minister passes away

Kohima, Jun 15 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader and former minister T Rothrong Sangtam died yesterday at his Duncan Basti residence following a heart attack.

He was 59 and is survived by his wife, five daughters and a son.

Born on June 13,1948 at Singrep village under Kiphire district, Rothrong joined the Congress in 1969. He was the president of the Kiphire district Congress committee. In 1974, he contested from Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency and won.

He was appointedthe deputy minister for supply and transport under chief ministership of Vizol.

He was re-elected from the same constituency in 1982, 1987 and 1989. He served in various capacities in the tenures of Vizol, S C Jamir and Hokishe Sema.

Rothrong's funeral service would be held today at Kiphire town.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio condoling the death said, Rothrong's dedicated services to the people and his simplicity would always be remembered. He conveyed his condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

In a separate message, Congress Parliamentary secretary K V Pusa condoled Rothrong's death.
