Customs collection up 21 pc in May

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) Customs collection in May showed a robust growth of 20.8 per cent in May to Rs 8,398 crore as compared to receipt of Rs 6,951 crore for the corresponding month of 2006.

However, revenue earning from excise for the month under consideration was not impressive as it increased by a mere 2.7 per cent from Rs 8,936 crore in May-2006 to Rs 9,175 crore in May-2007, provisional figures released by the Finance Ministry said today.

Excise collections excluded cess which is not administered by the revenue department.
