CPM cadres court arrest in Puducherry

Puducherry, June 15: Hundreds of CPI(M) cadres courted arrest by obstructing vehicular traffic at four different places here today.

The road blockade at Lawspet, Bahour, Madagadippattu and Puducherry town were to press the government to enact a legislation to regulate the admission of students and fees structure in private schools here, job security to the teachers in private schools and steps for speedy implementation of the Madras High Court order in respect of admission to Plus One.

Meanwhile, members of the joint committee of the municipality and commune panchayat workers union took out a procession through the main thoroughfares of the town and held a demonstration in front of the Local Administration Department to press their demands.

They were demanding, among other things, regularisation of service of daily-rated employees, implementation of the assured career progression scheme and restructuring the salary of the group.
