New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) A local court has dismissed the bail application of suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara, the main accused in the human trafficking case.

BJP MP Babu Bhai Katara was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on April 18 for trying to take a woman and a teenaged boy to Canada on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau, rejecting the bail application of Mr Katara, said, '' If persons belonging to the high status, particularly those who are law framers, show scant regard to the laws of the country and become law breakers, then such violators should be dealt with sternly'' .

The court further said any offence involving organised women trafficking syndicates stands on a much graver footing in respect of the punishment and a serious view has to be taken of the same as such offences are on the rise.

Counsel for Mr Katara submitted before the court that no money was ever demanded by the MP and it was his secretary Rajinder Kumar Ganpa who had got the alleged fake passport.

The court had on June 6 refused to grant bail to three co-accused Kiran Dhar, Sunder Lal Yadav and Satwant Singh in the case, saying their release would have a detrimental effect on the probe as the police was yet to lay their hands on other suspected parliamentarians.
