New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss today inaugurated a videoconference system for counseling of seat allotment for medical and dental courses in the country.

This is the first time that the counseling is being done through videoconference connecting Delhi, Puducherry and Kolkata.

a total of 1353 selected students from Delhi, 199 from Puducherry and 129 from Kolkata would participate in the counseling through video conferencing this year.

DGHS is entrusted with the responsibility of alloting 15 per cent All India Quota of MBBS/BDS courses and 50 per cent All India quota of PG courses (MD/MS, PG Diploma&MDS) by the Supreme Court.

In this allotment system, all MCI recognised Medical and Dental colleges, except in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu&Kashmir, would participate.

The First round of seat allotment for the MBBS/BDS courses started today and will end on June 26. About 95 medical colleges and 25 dental colleges are participating in the counseling for 1520 medical seats and 161 dental college seats, which constitute 15 per cent of the All India quota.

Till last year, the counseling for the seats was done by personal appearance before the counseling committee was constituted for this purpose in New Delhi. From this year onwards, it has been decided to conduct counseling through videoconference, connecting the main counseling centre at Central Health Education Bureau, New Delhi, second centre at JIPMER, Puducherry and third centre at All India Institute of Hygiene&Public Health, Kolkata.

The candidates have already exercised the option for personal appearance from any of the above three centres. The counseling committee at New Delhi will interact with the candidates at Puducherry and Kolkata centres when they appear before the counseling committee through videoconference at their merit number when called for personal appearance.

There will be a second round of counseling from the third week of July to the August first week of and the candidates from the merit list, who have already taken seats in the first round, will be given one more option to change seats from the available vacant pool.

After the completion of merit list, the remaining vacant seats will be alloted to the wait-listed candidates.
