Bihar to celebrate foundation day every year

Patna, Jun 15 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to celebrate the state's 'foundation day' every year after tracing its actual date from the gazetteer.

Official sources quoting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's direction to the state Art,Culture and Youth Affairs department, said they had been asked to draw up a 'comprehensive plan to celebrate the annual event in a befitting manner'.

''However,first we have to trace the actual date for the annual mega event from the government gazetteer to be sure about it,'' the sources said adding that senior department officials were already on the job and expected to submit their report to the chief minister soon.

The sources said a number of events like day-long sports and cultural programmes were likely to be organised across the state to mark the day.

Several eminent persons of Bihar might also be honoured by the state government on that day in recognition of their rich contribution to Bihar's development.

He said the main purpose of celebrating the foundation day of the state was to inculcate a sense of pride among the people of Bihar and recognise its steady growth in different fields,adding that a separate committee comprising the representatives of all political parties,freedom fighters' organisations,various NGOs would soon be formed to chalk out the blueprints of the annual programmes.

Meanwhile,efforts were being made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence in different parts of the state, the sources added.
