Badal comes forward to help freedom fighter's widow
Moga, June 15 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has granted Rs 50,000 to 90-year-old Gurnam Kaur, struggling for pension since the death of her Tamra Patra awardee freedom fighter husband Tara Singh Brar about 30 years ago.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Arvinder Singh told mediapersons here today that the state government had also approved a monthly pension of Rs 400 per month for the widow and had also recommended her case seeking freedom fighter's pension to the Centre.
The 90-year-old Gurnam had sat on indefinite fast unto death in front of Moga Deputy Commissioner last month alleging that the state government was displaying indifferent attitude towards her pleas. She later lifted her fast on the assurance of district administration to persue her case.
Last month when she met Mr Badal during the 'Sangat Darshan', the Chief Minister had assured her of extending all help. She was presented the cheque of Rs 50,000 by SDM Premchand yesterday.
