Chandigarh, Jun 15 (UNI) Punjab government has launched a special campaign to educate all farmers of the state about the quality control of seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, Punjab Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah said here today.

The agriculture department had organised 268 camps during this year's kharif season in which latest technical knowledge of the agriculture field was imparted to 70,000 farmers of the state, he said.

Mr Langah said during the campaign the farmers were advised to get their soil and water tested and cautioned not to plant paddy before June 20 as during this period the already depleting water table would decline further, which would lead to extra cost in submersible pumps.

During the camps, information was also given regarding the varieties of paddy and pulses to be sown during kharif season and 1537 samples were also taken to check the quality of agriculture inputs, he added.
