West Bengal Govt Submits Status Report on Nandigram

Kolkata, Jun 14 (UNI) The West Bengal Government today submitted a status report on Nandigram before Calcutta High court.

The government placed the report before the two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice S S Nijar, which asked the authorities to inform the court what it had done to restore peace and economic acitivity at Nandigram, ravaged by death in police firing over agitation against setting up Special Economic Zone (SEZ) there.

The report stated that the situation in Nandigram had improved and economic activity was about to be on the rails. It said efforts were on to bring back the people who had deserted their homes during and after the violent incidents.

The High Court had initiated seven public interest litigations (pils) on Nandigram incidents in which 14 people were killed and scores of people injured in police on March 14.
