UGC grants deemed status to Mah. Markandeshwar University
Kurukshetra, Jun 14 (UNI) The Centre has declared the Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana (Ambala) as the deemed University on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission.
It became the first-ever private university in Haryana after the state government passed an Act to this effect in the last assembly session. This would be a self-finance university, the Chancellor and founder-president of the Maharishi Markandeshwar Education Trust Tarsem Garg told mediapersons here today.
The University shall be operational from the date on which the existing technical educational institutions run by the trust are disaffiliated from the presently affiliating Kurukshetra University, he said.
The MM Education Trust was running about 30 professional courses in ten different institutions on the sprawling 170 acre Mullana Campus located 20 km from Shahabad GT Road on Kurukshetra- Ambala national highway.
The institution offered courses in engineering, medical, nursing, dental, pharmacy, management, computer and hotel management. It had a 750-bedded hospital for in-house training of medical students, nursing and pharmacy courses while a 3-star hotel for training the hotel management students. It also has a RS 40 crore modern lab and a blood bank.
The university has over 7,000 students and a faculty of 700 teachers along with other staff, the Chancellor said.
