Three injured in loose boulder crash
Gangtok, Jun 14 (UNI) Three persons were seriously injured today when a rolling boulder crushed a vehicle at Rokdara near Sadam, 20 km from Namchi, South district headquarters.
The vehicle was travelling from Yangang to Sadam when the incident occurred, said South district police.
Heavy downpour over the past few days had triggered landslides in different parts of South district, including Rokdara. A big boulder apparently came loose and crashed onto the vehicle.
The injured were admitted to Namchi hospital. Their condition was said to be critical.
Meanwhile, a traffic police personnel was injured when a rock cliff at Amdo Golai here disintegrated creating an avalanche of rocks on Indira Bypass yesterday .
Five buildings were now perched precariously on the hill above the bypass. The families living in them have been evacuated.
Police have cordoned off the area.
