TESCO launches lab in Bangalore

Bangalore Jun 14: Tesco Hindustan Service Centre (HSC), the global services arm of Tesco, world's third largest retailer, today unveiled its first Retail Test Lab in India here.

The lab has been established to test and certify all the retail software and solutions developed at Tesco HSC for the stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland (ROI), the Company said in a release here.

The lab would replicate the entire Point-Of-Sale testing infrastructure that was currently available in the UK for testing and certifying all the software that goes into an estate of over 1500 stores in the UK and ROI.

Spread over 7000 sq.ft, it has 27 tills deployed along with a host of peripherals like scanners, card readers, pin-pads, among other things for the 5 test stores that are currently deployed. The first phase would also have the Petrol Filling Stations (PFS).

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Meena Ganesh, CEO, Tesco HSC said, ''the Lab is a big milestone in our effort to build Tesco HSC as a centre of excellence in Retail technology and processes.

The lab will provide a unique opportunity to our employees to understand and appreciate the environment that Tesco operates in.'' Tesco HSC would be involved in the development of retail applications for which the lab would play an important role in analysing requirements and functional testing. The lab would also cater to the Operating Model in other countries, including US stores and additional requirements for POS (Point of Sale) she added.
