Southwest monsoon advances into Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jun 14 (UNI) The Southwest monsoon today advanced and covered some more parts of Orissa triggering wide spread rains.

Meteorological department sources said the northern limit of the monsoon passed Balasore and Gopalpur causing torrential rains in many parts of Orissa.

Kotpad in South Orissa today recorded a maximum 113 mm rainfall followed by 64 mm in Puri, 55 mm in Bhograi and 40 mm in Jaleswar.

Met sources said light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Orissa during the next 48 hours.

The Local cautionary signal number three has been hoisted at Puri, Paradip, Gopalpur and Chandbali and the fishermen had been advised not to venture into the sea as it would be rough due to the advancement of the southwest monsoon.
