Pre-monsoon showers lash HP

Shimla, June 14 (UNI) Pre-monsoon showers lashed several lower hills of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours with Agaar in Hamirpur district of the state recording 71 mm rains, the Met department said.

Shimla Meteorological Office spokesman R K Lakhanpal said pre- monsoon showers lashed several areas of the state, while dry weather persisted in higher hills of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti and Kullu districts of the state.

He said the monsoon, which had reached Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was likely to hit the state on or around June 20.

The met office said Nahan town in Sirmaur district was the wettest place in the state during the last 24 hours with 71.6 mm of rain followed by 51.8 and 51.2 mm of rain at the tourist resorts of Dharamshala and Shimla.

Palampur in Kangra district recorded 32 mm rain, Rajgarh 21.5, Sundernagar 16.5 mm and 15.5 mm at Solan, it said.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 24.5 degrees and a minimum of 15.3 degrees, while Sundernagar recorded a high of 21.7 degrees and a low of 32.1 degrees.

The maximum temperature at Sundernagar was 32.1 degrees, 34 at Bhuntar and 25 degrees at Kalpa in Kinnuar district.

High humid conditions were prevailing in the state following overcast conditions.

The met office has predicted light to moderate rains or thundershowers at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hours.
