Maharashtra Bhushan award to be conferred posthumously on R K Patil

Nagpur, June 14 (UNI) The 'Maharashtra Bhushan' award of the state government would be conferred posthumously upon this year's recipient, the late R K Patil, by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh here tomorrow.

Mr Patil, noted Gandhian and veteran freedom fighter, was selected for the prestigious award last month, but passed away at age 99 here on June 1 before the ceremony could be held. Mr Deshmukh will go to Mr Patil's residence here tomorrow evening and pay homage to him and also confer the award on him, according to an official release here.

Earlier, Mr Deshmukh will arrive here tomorrow morning to receive President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, who will be on a day-long tour of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Mr Deshmukh will accompany the President during the tour, the release added.
