Hamas bombards major Fatah security compound

GAZA, June 14 (Reuters) Hamas fighters bombarded a major security compound belonging to the rival Fatah group in Gaza City today after an ultimatum to those inside to surrender expired.

The Islamist group issued the ultimatum on its own radio station in Gaza and said those inside the compound would be allowed to leave safely by around 1150 hrs ist or risk the wrath of the surrounding force.

Hamas's seizure of the heavily fortified compound belonging to the Fatah-controlled Preventive Security force would deal a major blow to forces loyal to Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah.
