Govt-funded sewing machines, blankets recovered from SP office

Lucknow, June 14 (UNI) The recovery of 500 sewing machines and 400 blankets allegedly purchased from the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) funds from the Rampur district Samajwadi Party office is being investigated.

The recovered items were being distributed to beneficiaries, when the cops reached the spot on being informed.

Talking to reporters here this evening, secretary (home) Javed Ahmad said police has taken some persons in custody and interrogation was on.

He informed the seized items were estimated at Rs 10 lakh, which were purchased from government funds.

Due to the imposition of model code of conduct in the recent assembly poll, the items might have been kept at the SP office in Rampur, which is also the native place of SP senior leader and former UP Urban Development Minister Azam Khan.

Meanwhile, SSP Rampur Sanjeev Kumar confirmed the items were bought from DUDA funds in December.

Further investigation would be carried after written complaint by DUDA officials.
