GMP and FDA complaint Molecular Imaging Center launched

Bangalore, Jun 14 (UNI) The Healthcare Global Enterprises (HGE) and GE Healthcare, one of the leading healthcare solutions providers globally, today jointly launched GMP and FDA Compliant Molecular Imaging Center, first of its kind by a private sector.

Addressing a press conference after the launch, GE Healthcare President and Chief Executive Officer (South Asia) V Raja said that the company had reached to a strategic oncology partnership with HGE to address the growing oncology needs in India.

Mr Raja said that HGE had set up its advanced BMP and FDA compliant Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) in Bangalore and has chosen GE Healthcare's advanced medical technologies to provide diagnostic services in the areas of oncology, cardiology and neurology.

The center was equipped with the state-of-the-art molecular imaging systems including GE Discovery STe, GE PET Trance medical cyclotron and Traceable MX automated Chemistry Lab and Infinia dual head nuclear gamma camera system, he added.

Mr Raja said that the Molecular imaging has huge potential to enable detection of diseases at a much earlier stage and change the way to manage the patients today. It helps to identify and treat the molecular causes of diseases long before the patient ever experiences any symptoms and it will transform the future of healthcare worldwide, he added.

HEG Chairman and CEO Dr B S Ajaikumar, who was also present, said that GE's Discovery STe, installed at the HGE was the latest of its kind and combines 16-slice Computed Tomography, CT which provides highly detailed pictures of the patients anatomy with position emission tomography that provides metabolic information in a single system. It also helps doctors determine whether a suspicious growth was of cancerous or benign in a single exam. Earlier doctors had to put patents through two separate scans to get similar information with little success.

Dr Kallur, Director PET-Sensation Center, HCG group said that the information made available through GE Discovery STe PET/CT will help physicians quickly and accurately diagnose cardiac patients, helping to potentially eliminate invasive procedures. It also provides physicians with a comprehensive clinical took kit enabling them to see not only the possible cause of disease but also the extent of disease leading to the most appropriate treatment path for the patient.

He said that the equipment would come in handy to detect the cancer a terminal disease in advance even at its structural formation stage and find treatment at one go.
