Ambala, Jun 14 (UNI) Five human skeletons were found today by labourers digging a pond in village Balapur Kalawar on the border of Punjab under Police station Naggal, about 40 km from here.

A police team headed by the DSP Bhupinder Singh said all the skeletons would be sent to the forensic department for examination.

Meanwhile, the ex-Sarpanch of the village, Angrez Singh stated that the excavation of the pond under the the Indira Gandhi Rozgar Yojna for the rural unemployed, had begun two days back.

In the beginning, one human skeleton and a few bones were found but today five full skeletons were recovered.

The speculation was rife in the village about the origin of the skeletons and most agreed with the old man of the village Jaswant Singh who opined that the skeltetons could be of victims of an epidemic that had claimed many lives in the village over 60 years ago. Many people had been buried at that spot instead of being cremated, he said.

Another elder however, claimed that the digging site was a burial of Muslims prior to the partition in 1947.

DSP Singh said that he had submitted report to his seniors and an intensive investigation would be conducted if some other evidences were found.
