Five-member gang busted
Pune, June 14 (UNI) Pune Rural Police has busted a five-member gang, involved in dacoities and manufacture of arms.
Superintendent of Police Vishwas Nangre-Patil told reporters that the gang was involved in the illegal purchase and sale of arms that they manufactured. Police has recovered six country-made and one London-made revolver from them, he said.
The mastermind of the gang, Suresh Khomne, a resident of Baramati, is a history sheeter. In the past, the police had arrested him for making fake currency notes. He had six cases registered against him for vehicle thefts, dacoities, Nangre-Patil said.
Meanwhile, Uday Narain Shinde, an associate of a sharp shooter and notorious criminal Deepak Sapke was arrested yesterday evening.
He was wanted for looting a jewellery store at Ale Phata in Pimpri on May 30. Sapke, arrested last week, was earlier known to be a close aide of underworld don Chhota Rajan, Nangre-Patil said.
The SP said a case of forgery has been registered against an educational institution operating under the name of GET Group for promising hundred per cent placements. Students, who had studied here, felt cheated and had registered the complaint.
Giving the crime statistics for the past six months in Pune Rural, Nangre-Patil claimed that the crime rate has come down as compared to last year. Around 150 accused have been arrested from 31 gangs in a period of six months. A total of 43 weapons have been recovered from them. Around 8 cases of dacoities have been registered in the past six months as against 43 in the corresponding period last year, he added.
