Fake encounter: Dy SP's anticipatory bail rejected
Ahmedabad, June 14: A local court rejected the anticipatory bail application moved by Deputy SP M L Parmar in connection with his alleged involvement in the ''fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh''.
City session court judge Pradip P Bhatt rejected the application after hearing the arguments from both the sides.
Earlier on May 31, the same court had rejected the anticipatory bail application of three officers with Rajasthan police, Abdul Rehman Sheikh (police inspector), and Himanshusinh and Shyamsinh (both sub inspectors).
Sohrabuddin was gunned down on November 26, 2005 in Ahmedabad, after being branded a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by the Gujarat police and Rajasthan police in an encounter. He had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Sohrabuddin's wife Kausar Bi, who went missing after the incident, was also allegedly killed by the police.
The state government had admitted before the Supreme Court that Sheikh was killed in a fake encounter.
Gujarat police has arrested several officers, including three top police officials -- D G Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandian, and Rajasthan police SP Dinesh Kumar -- for their alleged involvement in this case.
