Clarion call made to end violence at Moreh
Imphal, Jun 14 (UNI) The Meitei, Kuki, Naga and Muslim communities, of Manipur have appealed to all for maintaining peace at Moreh in Chandel district.
The border town was tense since last few days following killing of eleven persons last Saturday by two different groups.
Several organisations, including Kuki Students Organisation, All Sora Muslim Chanura Lup, Threatened Indigenous Peoples' Society, World Manipuri Organisation and many other organisations have appealed for the peace.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the situation is now under control and about a battalion of troops were stationed at the border town.
The role of the Assam Rifles will also be reviewed during the next meeting of the Unified Command, he added.
The Assam Rifles has been charged of aiding one militant group involved in the clashes.
The state administration trying to resume international trade at Moreh between Manipur and Myanmar, which was affected since May last.
