Voters asked to produce EPIC for bypoll
Chennai, Jun 13 (UNI) The Election Commission has asked the voters possessing Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to produce it as proof of identity while exercising their franchise in the June 26 bypoll to Madurai West Assembly constituency.
An official release here said the EC had also identified ten other documents, to be produced in original, as proof of identity for those who do not have EPIC.
The documents that could be shown as identity proof included passport, driving licence issued up to January 31 this year, PAN card, service ID cards issued by Central and State Governments, PSUs, local bodies and public limited companies, passbooks with photo issued by public sector banks, post office and kisan passbooks, pension documents with photo, old age pensioner order, widow pension order with photo, freedom fighter ID cards, arms licenses with photo issued on or before January 31 and ID cards issued by the Directorate of Disablility for disabled people.
The EC clarified that mere possession of EPIC or any other form prescribed by the Commission would not entitle a person to exercise his vote, unless his or her name was found in the electoral rolls supplied to the polling station.
