Turbolinux launches 'Wizpy' in India

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) To capture a lion's share of the growing Linux software market in India, expected to be 19.9 million dollars by 2010, Leading Linux software firm Turbolinux today launched a bootable Linux OS device 'Wizpy' that offers flexibility to boot any computer.

Japan-based Turbolinux claims to have invested one million dollars for its Wizpy project so far and plans to invest more every quarter depending on the response from its offering.

''Introducing a new concept of 'PC 2.0' through Wizpy, our objective is to create awareness about the Linux operating system in India which is growing at 21 per cent per annum at present,'' Turbolinux President Deepak Wassan told reporters here.

Currently, 70,000 personal computers are running on Linux operating system in the country. The figure will reach the 1,00,000 mark next year.

Priced at Rs 11,995, 4 GB Wizpy has a software to play music in Ogg, MP3 and Windows Media Audio formats and to show xviD, MPEG4 video files and JPEG images.

It has 1.7 inch organic LED colour screen, an audio recorder, an FM radio and a text display for text viewer function that can support utf format.

Initially, the device will be available in seven cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangaluru, Pune and Hyderabad through retail outlets, Mr Wassan said.

''We will import 50,000 units from Japan by March 2008,'' he added.

The same device was launched in Japan in February this year.
