Russian gets 101st grandchildren

Moscow, June 13 (UNI) A 73-year-old resident of Novokuznetsk in West Siberia has set a record to become grandfather for the 101st time.

''A girl was born into the family of Alexei Shapoval's son, Iosif last weekend, ''Vasily Shapoval, one of the sons told RIA Novosti news agency today, adding ''They are thinking to name her Tatyana.'' Including the newborn, Alexei Shapoval has 50 granddaughters and 51 grandsons. One of Shapoval's granddaughters was born just two months ago.

Shapoval's eldest son, also named Alexei, was born nearly fifty years ago, and was followed by twelve siblings over the years including ten sons and two daughters.

The whole family lives at Bungur village, outside Novokuznetsk, in a single street, which the villagers renamed Shapoval Street.

Shapoval does not have any great grandchildren yet, but said he was hopeful to have one soon.
