Rly officer caught accepting bribe

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) Vaibhav Chauhan, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer (HQ) West Central Railway, Jabalpur was caught red-handed demanding and accepting Rs 50,000, according to a release by the Central Bureau of Investigation today.

The premier investiating agency alleged that the bribe was in consideration for revocation of a termination order and regularisation of a peon under Group 'D' employee.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the railway official. A search of Chauhan's residence yielded 13 live cartridges of 0.315 rifle, 37 live cartridges of 0.32 revolver and one live cartridge of 0.22 rifle.

The CBI also stumbled upon the file concerning the termination order issued against the peon, the complainant in this case.

The search of the locker maintained in the joint name of the accused railway official and his wife in the State Bank of India, Jabalpur led to recovery of Rs 3.83 lakh cash besides gold jewellery worth Rs 7.42 lakh.

Another locker maintained by the accused in the joint name with his wife in another bank in Bhopal is yet to be opened.
