New TNPSC Chairman appointed

Chennai, June 13 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today appointed Mr A M Kasiviswanathan, Secretary to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, as the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

Exercising the powers conferred under Article 316 (1) of the Constitution, State Governor S S Barnala, on the advise of the Chief Minister, appointed Mr Kasiviswanathan with effect from June 29.

He would replace Ms Yasmin Ahmed, who would retire on June 28, an official release here said.

Hailing from Chinnanur village in Salem district, Mr Kasiviswanathan did his graduation from Salem Arts college and Post Graduation in Madras Presidency College.

He began his Government service as Deputy Collector, Tiruchirapalli district, after he emerged the State topper in Group-I examination in 1978.

After serving in various capacities, Mr Kasiviswanathan was elevated as an IAS officer in 1994 and served as Public Secretary for an year.

He had served as Madurai District Collector and earned the distinction of setting up the first 'Samathuvapuram' (equality habitation) in Madurai. During 2005-06, he had served as the State Election Commissioner. He was Secretary to the Chief Minister from 2006-07.
