Gangster shot at in rivalry

Fatehgarh Sahib, Jun 13 (UNI): Notorious criminal Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakhi, accused of murdering rival gang leader Rupinder Singh 'Gandhi' three years ago, was today shot at allegedly by his brother Manjinder Singh in village Salana of the district.

Police sources said Lakhwinder, who sustained four gunshot injuries was rushed to the PGIMR, Chandigarh, in a serious condition.

He was shot at when he was returning from Ludhiana after appearing in a court in connection with the Gandhi murder case.

Gangster Gandhi had allegedly been killed by him in 2003 following clashes over supremacy in their area of crminal operations.

Police sources said preliminary investigations revealed that on his way back, Lakhwinder Singh was chased by a group of miscreants led by Gandhi's younger brother Manjinder Singh Gandhi'.

They said the gang shot several rounds at Lakhwinder's car using at least two weapons. He was forced into a street that had a dead end and when his car stopped, the gang fired more shots at him.

Immediately after the incident was reported, a team of policemen from Amloh police station reached the spot. Other accomplices involved in the crime were yet to be identified, the sources added.
