Ganganath Jha Hostel firing accused held

Allahabad, Jun 13 (UNI) Police today arrested the Allahabad University's Ganganath Jha hostel firing accused here.

On June 9, Santosh Yadav and his aides had opened fire at Ashish Kumar Singh, following a heated exchange of words. Both the students were room mates and residing illegally in the hostel.

Acting on a tip-off, cops nabbed Santosh and his kin Dinesh with the seizure of 12 bore gun and some bullets.

Meanwhile, SSP K S Pratap Kumar announced to rewarded the police team with Rs 2,500.

After the firing incident, the Allahabad University (AU) authorities with the help of police had started varsity hostels' eviction drive.

According to police, majority of the students in the Jha hostel are illegal inmates. The occupancy of unsocial elements is a threat to the law and order situation of the city.

The administration had developed a summer hostel plan to renovate the hostels and evict the illegal inmates, but due to stiff opposition and agitation of students, it had aborted for indefinite period.

AU sources said, all the hostels would be evicted, for which the district administration was providing full cooperation.
