Easterlies cool Delhi, minimum drops to 28.5 degree Celsius

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) Easterly winds maintained a coolness in the Delhi air for the second consecutive day today, providing relief from the scorching heat conditions since the beginning of June.

The Easterlies led to a drop in minimum temperature to 28.5 degrees Celsius from 30.3 degrees Celsius yesterday. Though humidity level in the capital remained high at 49 per cent, the drop in mercury, coupled with a partly cloudy sky, continued to bring respite to the people of the city from the severe heat wave that has been sweeping the it since the beginning of June.

With weathermen forecasting rain and thundershowers in Delhi in the coming days, the relief from heat could continue for rest of the week.

''Rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places accompanied with isolated squall over west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab.

There is also likely to be a further fall in day temperatures over Northwest India under influence of Easterly winds,'' the weather office said.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas. They have also forecast a drop in maximum temperature today to 37 degree Celcius.
