Damaged track will be restored by noon: Official
Vijayawada, June 13: The badly damaged second track, following the derailment of several coaches of Nagercoil-Howrah Gurudev Express near Duvvada railway station on Monday night, would be restored for traffic by noon today.
Vijayawada Senior Divisional Operations Manager B S Christopher, informing this to sources, said the railway authorities had taken up the work on a war-footing to restore the line.
Passenger traffic between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam was running on the adjacent line. Cranes were pressed into service to lift the derailed coaches, railway sources said.
The sources said Commissioner of Railway Safety was likely to visit the mishap site today or tomorrow to make an on-the-spot assessment of the mishap.
A helpline-0866-2576924 has been opened in the city railway station.
Three persons were killed and 26 injured, seven of them seriously in the incident.
Meanwhile, the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada Ratnachal Express, Visakhapatnam-Guntur-Visakhapatnam Simhadri Express and Visakhapatnam-Tenali-Visakhapatnam Janmabhoomi Express were cancelled for the second day today.
Some of the Visakhapatnam-bound passenger trains were also cancelled today, the sources said adding the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam passenger, which left Vijayawada this morning would run upto Anakapalle and return back to Vijayawada.
Most of Express trains were running behind schedule, the sources added.
