Contagious diseases kill 18 in Mirzapur
Mirzapur, June 13 (UNI) Even as Uttar Pradesh received much awaited pre-monsoon showers today, the heat-triggered contagious diseases have claimed at least 18 lives so far here.
Since the advent of summers, the terror of deadly infectious diseases are haunting Mirzapur. The health centres are seething with patients.
The victims of these fatal diseases like diarrhoea and cholera are mostly children. In the last two days, malaria claimed the life of five children, identified as two-year-old Kumari, Anju (12), Inder (8), Raman (10) and Prakash (5).
Mirzapur is considered as the most sensitive in terms of malaria in UP.
To fight the situation, the district administration had established a control room and constituted a mobile team of doctors.
The holidays of doctors and health officials had been cancelled.
Now onwards, there would be 24 hours emergency service in the hospitals, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Vinod Kumar said here today.
The CMO further confirmed the death of eight people in the last two days from several killer diseases. However, he ruled out the deaths due to the vector-borne Japanease Encephalitis (JE).
Those succumbed were mostly patients of diarrhoea, he added.
