China: No seeking of large trade surplus with EU

Brussels, Jun 13: Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai said today his country was not deliberately seeking to run up a large trade surplus with the European Union the subject of tough talks in Brussels with his EU counterpart.

''China never purposefully seeks a large amount of trade surplus,'' Bo told reporters through a translator after meeting European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson.

He added that the bilateral trade relationship was balanced when taking into account European investment in China and services trade as well as goods.
