Thiruvananthapuram, June 12: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Leader K Karunakaran today said Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan should resign owning moral responsibility for his government's failure in taking effective measures to contain the outbreak of viral fever in the state.

Addressing mediapersons here, he alleged the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had utterly failed in taking any effective measures to find a solution to the ''alarming situation'' faced by the state following the outbreak of the viral fever, including chikungunya.

Alleging the government did not take any steps to provide sufficient medicines and food to patients, the former Chief Minister suggested it should give priority to provide proper and effective medicines and nutritious food to patients, besides cleaning the hospital premises and ensuring sufficient drinking water and electricity to tackle the serious situation.

The government should also have utilise the service of the Reserve Police to tackle the situation, he added.

Mr Karunakaran also alleged the Munnar action was a ''political escape'' and intended to divert the attention of the public, as they realised that the chief minister had no efficiency in administration.

The cabinet ministers would work effectively only if the chief minister had good leadership quality and an upper hand over his cabinet colleagues, he added.
